29 The Figure-Eight Knot is used to put a “lump” in the bitter end of a line so it can’t pass through a block or a grommet. To tie the Figure-Eight Knot.
  • Form a loop in the end of the line, as in A.
  • Pass the free end of the line around behind the standing part, then over the loop and then through the loop, as in B.
  • Finally, pull the bitter end tight while holding onto the standing part. The finished knot should look like C.
